Week one buzz
First week done and I’m on a bit of a high! All the tough stuff earlier this week seems a long time ago. Yesterday and today were still hard, don’t get me wrong! But I got there. Things make some sense, and I’m learning a lot. Including about myself! My tendency to read too fast, throw myself in and then find myself floundering? Yup. Stupid little spelling mistakes? Yup. Lack of patience in a long piece of work? Oh yes …
So there’s plenty to work on. But I feel like I can survive.
And my fellow students are great! I had been a little nervous about this. Would they be friendly? Would they treat me as a mad old lady? I just didn’t know. But everyone is great! Super friendly and helpful. And we went to the pub last night!
So - hurray, I’m glad to say I can go into the weekend feeling good about things. And next week we’ll all be properly together in one place, which will make a difference. There was a bit of a problem with rooms, so that my class has spent most of this week either working from home or, as I did, working in the kitchen area of the Babel Community - the co-working space where Le Wagon is based.
It’s been fine, but I got in trouble for talking too loud on Zoom while other people were working! And while there were always one or two other classmates there, it’ll be better when we’re mostly together. There are a few remote students, and some in Nice, so it will still be a bit online - but we’ll have a room, and seven of us together, so that’ll be good.
Actually, it’s worth mentioning the Babel Community. Le Wagon used to have its own offices in central Marseille, but when that became too small, they decided to change completely and move to the co-working space. I’ve worked in a few co-working spaces, and had actually looked at Babel, on its rue de la Republique space - and decided against it because it was expensive and also kind of … wanky? It seemed full of young marketing people. I mean, sorry to be down on young marketing people but they’re not my people!
And here I am - I’ve done one week in the central Marseille Babel and for the next eight I’ll be based in rue de la Republique. Or Repu, as I heard it called last night …
So yeah, I’ll be in with the wankers. And I actually love all the swankiness, so I guess I’m a wanker too …
