Project(ing)!

We’re on the final run now! All the classes are over and we’re into the final two weeks of projects.

Yesterday was ‘pitch day’, where we all presented project ideas and then voted on them, then were assigned projects to work on. Mine didn’t get chosen, which is a shame, but also a bit of a relief! I was looking at doing sentiment analysis to identify scam calls and it was going to be a huge amount of work to get the data together.

There were some great ideas,  and it was hard to choose what to vote for. It ranged from cancer detection to stock market prediction, from cycling networks to job advert analysis. I’ve ended up on one I’m happy with: a system to identify Lego characters! That sounds a bit lightweight but it’s actually going to be an interesting project. And there’s decent data available, from what I’ve seen, so it’ll be fun. Plus I like both my team mates. The fact that they’re both good at coding helps, too!

We’ll work on the projects, with the help of the teacher, over the next two weeks, and then present them on Demo Day on Friday 22.

I should also add a note on just how brilliant Le Wagon’s internal learning platform is. I’ve honestly seldom come across a platform so well designed and easy to use! Everything just works beautifully: the lessons, the challenges, and now the voting system and project allocation. It’s impressive, and clear that someone has put a lot of thought and effort into it.
